"Rising Stars Vol. 3 is presented by Studio 107 and the curator Till
Richter. Richter's concept for the Rising Star series of exhibitions is
to place a bet -as it were- on the art historic and market success of
emerging artists. The printmaker Adreon Henry, photographer Fernando Lafuente
and painter Alonso Rey could not be stylistically more different. What
ties them together is the formal and conceptual quality of their work
and their willingness to succeed. You will be the judge."
"Henry prints on the back of transparent
vinyl and then literally weaves different layers of images together. Lafuente
artistically freezes traces of consumption when he descends into dumpsters
with his camera only to come up with strikingly beautiful images that
are too real to be abstract. Finally, Rey descends into the surreal abyss
of the human psyche dissecting emotions with the sharp brush of a master

Studio 107 was created in 1999 to establish a dialogue among contemporary
artists and to help introduce contemporary art to more of Austin.
The works shown at Studio107 are edgy, contemporary, humorous, and
technically excellent in execution, concept, implication or all three.
The artists who show in this space are dedicated to producing high
quality art even if it means late nights after a hard day's work somewhere
else. They strive to challenge their peers to achieve a higher level
of perception.
