I have been capturing still images through photography for six years. The majority of my subjects have been vacant buildings, empty lots, and skeletal remains of houses and businesses. These immobile structures couldn’t object, and they needed no direction or instruction when I photographed them. These places may gather dust and rot as they slowly decay but their faces do not change much with time.

In my experience of photographing I have not once taken it upon myself to study people. I wanted to propose myself a challenge filled with faces, blinking eyes, and moving lips. More or less, I wanted subjects that moved and changed. I originally attempted to track down and photograph the young and hip crowd of twenty-somethings living in Austin, TX, but in a city running over with affected individuality, I found that those that do not bother to stand out, stand out the most. These people surround us everyday and are by far the most interesting without even having to make the effort. I took it upon myself to face my challenge and capture these people.

No need for a facade
