I draw the inspiration for my art from a reflection about my life and my actions. The art functions as an X-ray of my state of being; the ability to look into myself and others is the gift of the artist.

El Cantante (The singer), 2006

I experimented with different media: acrylic, watercolor, pencils, pastels and oil. In my eyes, oil is the mother of all media because it allows for a very finely tuned relation between feelings and color.

The art historical and stylistic as well as technical inspiration of my work is derived from a long study of the great master painters throughout the centuries. In particular, but in no particular order, the following: Chagall, Kokoschka, Klimt, Schiele, Munch, Ensor, Dix, Grosz for the modern period, but also Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Edward Burne-Jones. Last but not least, there is always Goya and Caravaggio.

My art shall speak for itself even though I like to give the paintings a psychological edge, imbue them with sensuality and dark humor and let them communicate their ambiguous meanings and double-entendres. I, on the other hand, love to hear the explanations of the viewers which resonate within me and may well have an influence on future paintings.
